The service center
Good care starts with a clear answer.
Tell us what changed. We inspect the right systems, explain what we find, and help you decide what the car needs now and what can reasonably wait.

What does your car need?
You do not need to diagnose it before you call. Choose the closest category, or simply describe the light, sound, smell, or change you noticed.

Three things help us get to the point faster.
- 01
What changed?
A light, noise, vibration, smell, leak, or different feel gives us the starting point.
- 02
When does it happen?
Cold, warm, turning, braking, highway speed, rain, or air conditioning use can narrow the cause.
- 03
How urgent does it feel?
Tell us whether the car is still driving normally or whether you have stopped using it.
Plain-language service
A repair recommendation should come with a reason.
Car problems are stressful enough without a vague explanation. A good service conversation separates the symptom you noticed, the cause testing revealed, and the repair that addresses it. Those are three different things, and treating them that way is what prevents guesswork.
Urgency should be equally clear. Safety problems, conditions that can cause more damage, routine maintenance, and items to watch do not all belong in the same bucket. Ask questions. The goal is that you understand the decision, not just the estimate.
If the vehicle is overheating, has lost oil pressure, has a flashing check engine light, smells strongly of fuel or exhaust inside the cabin, or no longer steers or stops normally, do not keep driving it. Pull over safely and call for guidance.

Useful answers
Questions about service at Cherrywood Auto
Do I need an appointment for service?
Calling ahead is the best way to get a time that works. Describe what changed with the vehicle when you call 516-785-9378, because that determines how long the visit needs and which bay it belongs in.
What should I tell you when I call?
Three things help most: what changed, when it happens, and how urgent it feels. A light, a noise, a vibration, a smell, or a leak is the starting point; whether it happens cold, warm, turning, braking, or only with the air conditioning on narrows it quickly.
Will you tell me what can wait?
Yes. Safety problems, conditions that cause further damage, routine maintenance, and items to monitor are four different categories, and we separate them rather than presenting one list. You should be able to decide what to do now and what to plan for.
Do you work on vehicles you did not sell?
Yes. Cherrywood Auto is a full service center as well as a dealership, and most service customers did not buy their vehicle here.
When should I stop driving and call instead?
Stop driving if the engine is overheating, the check engine light is flashing, oil pressure has dropped, you smell fuel or exhaust inside the cabin, or the vehicle no longer steers or stops normally. Pull over somewhere safe and call for guidance.
Can you perform a New York State inspection?
Yes. Safety and, for eligible vehicles, OBD emissions inspections are performed here. If the check engine light is on or the battery was recently disconnected, allow extra time, because the vehicle may not be ready for the emissions portion.
Ready when you are
Let’s take a look at it.
Call to describe the concern and choose a service time. If you are not sure which category fits, that is completely fine.
